Nobody needs a reason to make something about their pet, but there are a few good ones - a first Gotcha Day, a birthday, the year they turned eight and you started noticing the grey around the mouth.

Part two: after
This section is for people who have lost a pet, and it's written differently because it should be.
The grief is not disproportionate
Somebody has probably already implied it was. That it's been a few weeks. That you could get another one.
You spent every day for ten or fourteen years with an animal who was in the room for your entire twenties - every bad night, every flat you moved into, every relationship that started and ended. Nobody else in your life had that attendance record. The grief is proportionate to that, and the people telling you otherwise are working from a much smaller relationship than the one you had.
What we can actually do
N° 01 · Living Portrait - ₹299. One photograph, given movement. For a lot of people this is the only moving image of their pet that will ever exist, and for pets that died before smartphone video, it's the only one possible.

If it's for someone else
If your friend has lost a pet and you don't know what to send - this is a better answer than flowers, and considerably better than saying nothing because you were worried about saying the wrong thing.
You'll need photos, which means asking their partner or their sibling quietly rather than asking them.
When to do it
For a memorial, most people find the first few weeks too raw and somewhere around the first month or the first anniversary right. There's no correct timing and anyone who tells you there is hasn't done it.
