You are happy for them. That's true and it's the main thing.
There is also a smaller, less presentable feeling underneath it, which is that something is ending. Not the friendship - the availability. The 2am calls, the last-minute plans, the fact that they were, until recently, the person with the fewest competing obligations in your life.
Nobody says this at weddings. Everyone is thinking it.
The gift problem, specifically
The family handles the big stuff. You're not buying them a fridge.
So you're left with: an envelope, which is what an uncle does, or something off the registry, or a personalised something with their names and the date on it, which will be one of nine such items they receive.
Meanwhile you are the person who was there for the entire relationship that led to this wedding. You knew about them before their parents did. You have screenshots.
The sangeet is the opening
Every Indian wedding has a slot for this and almost everyone fills it badly.
Someone makes a slideshow. It's assembled at 1am the night before, the photos are compressed to nothing, it's set to a song that doesn't fit, and it runs for six and a half minutes because nobody had the heart to cut anything.
The room wants to watch it. The room also checks its phones by minute four.
N° 04 · Memory Film - ₹2,999
Give it to people who edit for a living.
Send the photos - the friend group's, from before the relationship as well as during. We cut it into something paced and scored that holds a room for the right length of time, which is much shorter than you think.
N° 04 · Memory Film - ₹2,999. Teaser in 24 hours, film in 2-3 days. Elaborate ones - more footage, more voices, more years - take up to 14 days, so start early for a wedding.
The maths: split across eight friends that's under ₹400 each. You are all spending considerably more than that on outfits.
The friendship version, not the couple version
Here's the distinction worth getting right.
Most wedding films are about the couple. Yours doesn't have to be. The most affecting thing you can make is a film about your friend - who they were at nineteen, the version of them only your group knew, the whole arc that ends with them standing on a stage in a sherwani.
Their new family has never seen any of that. Their partner has seen about four years of it. You have all of it.
That's the film nobody else at the wedding can make.
N° 03 · Custom Song - ₹999
For the sangeet performance that isn't another Bollywood medley.
An original song about the two of them, or about the friendship, written from what you tell us. You perform it or you play it - either works, and if your group is going to dance regardless, having it be your song rather than the same four tracks is a meaningfully better evening.
What not to do
Don't put the ex in the film. This seems obvious. It is apparently not.
Don't make it about you. There's a version of the best-friend speech that's secretly about the speaker and everyone can feel it.
Don't run it long. Cut the film, cut it again, then cut it once more. Three good minutes beats seven complete ones.
