Your First Diwali In A Rented Flat In A City That Isn't Yours

Couldn't get leave. Everyone's asking when you're coming. Something to send home that isn't a hamper. From ₹499.

Your First Diwali In A Rented Flat In A City That Isn't Yours

Diwali 2026 is Sunday, 8 November.

You have four days of leave for the year and you've already committed two of them to a wedding. The flights to your city have tripled. Your manager has said "let's see" about the Friday, which means no.

So you'll be in Bangalore. Or Gurgaon. In a 2BHK with two flatmates, one string of lights from a supermarket, and a video call at 8pm.

Why this is worse than people admit

Everyone's sympathetic about NRIs. Living abroad is a legible reason to miss Diwali - the distance is obvious, the visa is real, nobody argues.

You're in the same country. You're a two-hour flight away. Which means the question "itni door bhi nahi ho, aa nahi sakte the?" is asked every year, and there's no answer that doesn't sound like an excuse, because the real answer is "I have four days of leave and a manager who said let's see."

So you send money. Or a hamper from an app, delivered by a courier, containing dry fruits arranged in a way dry fruits have never naturally arranged themselves.

What the hamper is actually doing

It's a receipt. It proves you remembered.

Your mother will thank you on the call and then distribute most of the chocolate to the neighbours' kids, and by the 10th nobody remembers it arrived. That's not ingratitude - it's just that a box of sweets was never going to close a gap that isn't about sweets.

The gap is that you're not in the room while everyone shouts about the lights not working.

Two things that work better

N° 02 · Voice Letter - ₹499

You record what you'd say if you were there. Or what you can't say when eleven people are on the call.

Record it badly. In the flat, at night, with your flatmate's TV audible. Stop halfway and start again. That's fine - that's the raw material, and the flaws are what make it obviously yours.

We shape it into something finished, scored, made to last. It arrives on WhatsApp. Your mother plays it in the kitchen on the 8th and then again on the 9th when nobody's around.

N° 02 · Voice Letter - ₹499. Roughly the cost of two coffees near your office.

N° 04 · Memory Film - ₹2,999

The Diwalis you were there for. Every photo on your phone from before you moved, plus whatever's in the family albums.

It plays on the TV during the evening while you watch on a video call from a rented flat. You're still not there. But something of yours is, and everyone in the room is looking at it.

N° 04 · Memory Film - ₹2,999. Teaser in 24 hours, final in 2-3 days.

The practical stuff

Nothing ships. No courier, no delivery window, no tracking that stops updating for four days. It's a file, it arrives on WhatsApp.

No cutoff. Diwali is the 8th. You can commission this on the 5th.

Photos are optional. If your photos are all on your phone and none of the old ones are digital, send a voice note instead - it's enough to start.

If your parents say don't waste money

They will. They say it about everything since you started earning.

Send the ₹499 one. It's very hard for a mother to argue that hearing her son's voice was an extravagance, and she has no counterargument available about the price.

And book the leave for next year now

Not a product pitch. Just - do it in January, before the calendar fills. This year is gone but the next one is still negotiable.

Photos storage hain. Stories memories hain.
